Baseball Can’t Keep Up With SIUE/이스턴일리노이대학교[미국주립대 장학생,미국대학편입]
SIUE scored at least one run in every inning besides the sixth and eighth frames and picked up a 22-8 win over the Panthers on Saturday. Eastern Illinois dropped to 18-33 (10-16 OVC), while SIUE improved to 23-25 (11-15 OVC).
For the second time in as many games, SIUE jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Cougars put across six runs on five hits in the inning and took a 6-0 lead over the Panthers.
Eastern Illinois cut the deficit in half in the next half-inning. After Josh Turnock and Jimmy Govern knocked back-to-back one-out singles, Frankie Perrone blasted a three-run home run to move the score to 6-3 in favor of the Cougars.
SIUE pushed their lead to 13-3 with three runs in the second and two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
Logan Beaman got the Panthers started in the top of the fifth with a lead-off single and moved into scoring position after swiping second base. Matt Albert drove in Beaman with an RBI single to cut the SIUE lead to 13-4.
SIUE answered right back in the bottom-half of the inning as the first three Cougars reached base to start the frame. Eric Glitz drove in the first run of the inning for the Cougars with an RBI sacrifice fly. Alec Skender followed later in the inning with a three-run home run to extend the Cougars' lead to 17-4.
Eastern Illinois got a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Hunter Beetley and in the seventh on an RBI single by Dougie Parks, but the Cougars added five runs in the bottom half-of the seventh.
The Panthers added two more runs in the top of the ninth on a bases-loaded walk by Perrone and an RBI single by Beetley, but the Cougars worked out of the jam and earned the 22-8 decision.
Michael McCormick suffered the loss on the mound for the Panthers, as he allowed nine runs in one and two-thirds innings pitched.
Govern and Beetley finished the game with three hits each to lead the Panthers on the offensive end. Beaman and Perrone chipped in two hits each. Perrone finished the game with a team-high four RBIs.
Eastern Illinois and SIUE will wrap up their series on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
