Minnesota State University, Mankato/Minnesota State Mankato Begins 150th Anniversary Celebration by Announcing use of Sesquicentennial Logo[미네소타주립대학교 맨카토,미국대학컨설팅]
Minnesota State University, Mankato President Richard Davenport kicked off the University’s 18-month celebration of its 150th anniversary today by announcing that Minnesota State Mankato would begin using its sesquicentennial logo as the University’s signature brand through December 2018.
Today’s date, Feb. 16, was chosen as the date to begin using the sesquicentennial logo because Feb. 16 is the date on which the Minnesota legislature passed the bonding bill to form the state’s second normal school in Mankato. The Mankato Normal School, as it was originally named, eventually evolved into the current University.
The University was officially founded in October 1868. The 18-month celebration of the institution’s 150th birthday will culminate on Oct. 7, 2018, a date that marks the 150-year anniversary of the day that the first actual classes were held.
“We’re proud to begin using this logo as we celebrate our first 150 years,” said Davenport. “It not only will remind us of our past and allow us to imagine the big ideas and real-world thinking of our first 27 students in 1868, but it will also inspire us to think about how our more than 15,000 current students will use their own big ideas to help transform our world over the next 150 years.”
Over the course of 18 months, the University’s sesquicentennial celebration will be integrated into more than 200 campus events. More details will be forthcoming at the University’s spring commencement. There are plans for a large fall kick-off event, with events throughout the 2017-2018 academic year leading up to the fall 2018 sesquicentennial event celebration date.
Paul J. Hustoles, chair of Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Theatre and Dance, and Kent Stanley, vice president of University Advancement, are the co-chairs of the University’s Sesquicentennial Planning Commission.
“We can’t wait to explore and celebrate our past,” said Hustoles, “as we look forward to our next 150 years.”
There are currently more than 100 active volunteers involved in sesquicentennial planning, which began in the fall of 2015. Included are faculty, staff, administrators, students, alumni, emeriti and community members. The volunteers are grouped into four major subcommittees, focusing on university celebrations; college celebrations; community celebrations; and publications, promotions and preservation.
