Northwest Missouri State University’s Blue Key and Cardinal Key honor societies on Friday crowned Kris Hudson as their 2017 Tower king, and Emily Elder was crowned queen during a ceremony at the Memorial Bell Tower.
Hudson, a Raymore, Missouri, native, is a communication major with a public relations emphasis. He is a student ambassador, SSS Mentor for TRIO and University Seminar peer advisor. He also is a member of the Northwest Dance Company, St. Jude Up 'til Dawn, Tower yearbook and Honors Program. Student Ambassadors sponsored his candidacy.
Elder, of Wathena, Kansas, is a graphic design major. She is a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha, AdInk and Northwest Dance Company. Alpha Sigma Alpha sponsored her candidacy.
The Tower King and Queen program is organized each spring by Blue Key and Cardinal Key to recognize Northwest students who excel academically while exhibiting high involvement at Northwest and in the Maryville community.
Campus organizations nominate one king and one queen, who then participate in an application and interview process resulting in the selection of candidates to fill the Tower court. The king and queen are selected by the student body during a week of online voting.
