Minnesota State University, Mankato(미네소타주립대학교 맨카토)Music Students Present 'Rock & Pop in a Coffee Shop'

Students from Minnesota State University, Mankato's Department of Music vocal studios will perform on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, April 30 at 3 p.m. in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

“Rock & Pop in a Coffee Shop” features vocal and instrumental students performing in a contemporary combination of rock, folk, pop, musical theatre, and classical vocal genres. Musical selections range from J.S. Bach, Stephen Sondheim, Sara Bareilles, Fleetwood Mac, to John Lennon and many more.

The production is co-directed by Stephanie Thorpe (music department) and Nicholas Wayne (theatre department). Taking place during a day in a coffee shop, the action of the production moves from the opening of the shop to the antics of the staff and their patrons, including, but not limited to: blind dates, pushy customers, open mic performers, as well as finding unity and common ground as human beings.

The performers are ecstatic about their upcoming performances.

Senior Laura Schugel commented: “I am excited for the audience to see how we put all of these songs together to create a cohesive storyline, and how each of us gets a chance to be in the spotlight and show off our talents.”

Senior Alyssa Winch, assistant director of the production, stated: “I am so excited to be part of the creating, organizing, and performing of “Rock & Pop in a Coffee Shop!” I am confident this show will be our most successful thanks to the hours our talented cast, band, and faculty has put into the production.”

Sophomore Erika Dobie said that the show “has a good variety of songs and we are so excited to make the audience laugh, feel emotions, and get excited! It’s a great show!”

Lauren Senden, Mankato East sophomore and Miss Mankato’s Outstanding Teen 2017, said that the production has “paid attention to details so our audiences can track the story of any character than intrigues them. I hope audiences have as great of a time as we are having onstage!”
