UI Partners to Build New Exhibit About Boise Watershed_University of Idaho[아이다호대학교,한미교육원]

The University of Idaho Boise is proud to partner with CH2MHill, the city of Boise and Boise WaterShed Exhibits to support the construction of the Boise WaterShed River Campus for the expanded Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center.

Located at the West Boise Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center has served over 135,000 people since opening in 2008. It is now poised for expansion both inside and outside the facility.

The Boise WaterShed River Campus construction, now underway, will be completed in the summer of 2016. These new exhibits will provide STEM career exposure and water conservation and protection content appropriate for school field trips, family outings and teacher professional development. The new River Campus will offer an outdoor, park-like setting modeling the Boise watershed.

Ralph Budwig, director of UI’s Center for Ecohydraulics Research StreamLab, is teaming up with the Boise WaterShed River Campus design team to simulate flows proposed for the representative river that will flow through the new campus using a flume located on the first floor of the Water Center, which houses UI Boise. UI Boise houses one of just a few uniquely equipped ecohydraulics labs in the world. The flume will be used to create a full-scale model of the river that will flow through the new outdoor campus.

Interested community members are invited to view the flume and ask questions of Budwig and Roberts  from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 11, at UI Boise, 322 E. Front St.

When built around the Boise WaterShed building, the new 2-plus acre River Campus will feature hands-on outdoor exhibits telling the valley’s water story from Lucky Peak Reservoir and dam to the Snake River. The River Campus will extend learning from the interior exhibits and demonstrate the inter-connected nature of our watershed as both a natural and human-managed system. Incoporating public art to interpret the science components, the River Campus will be an enjoyable and educational destination for people of all ages.
