Cuba Journal Offers Three-Month Internship through UI Hemingway Festival_University of Idaho[아이다호대학교,미국대학진학]

Undergraduate students nationwide have the opportunity to compete for a new, paid three-month internship with the Cuba Journal, a digital newspaper launched in 2015 offering unbiased, in-depth reporting on all things Cuba.

The Cuba Journal is partnering with the University of Idaho Hemingway Festival to award the internship. This year’s seventh annual Hemingway Festival celebrates Ernest Hemingway’s connection to Cuba and the reinvigorated U.S.-Cuba political relationship. It is also the 65th anniversary of the writing of “The Old Man and the Sea.”

The Cuba Journal is offering a three-month, paid internship with the student writing articles and working for the digital publication remotely from the United States. The intern will be expected to work eight to 10 hours a week and will be paid $250 per month. The internship will begin shortly after the announcement of the winner in March.

Job duties will include:

News gathering, fact checking and news design;

Learning about the technical aspects of digital newspaper SEO, Google News indexing and web technologies for digital publishers;

Practical aspects of attribution, copyright and fair use;

Byline/attribution for selected articles published by the Cuba Journal

Students who are interested in applying for the internship must submit a 1,000-word article about Hemingway’s connection to Cuba, along with their resume. The winner will be selected by Cuba Journal co-founder and editor-in-chief Simons Chase and announced during the Hemingway Festival at UI on March 3, 2016. Articles should be submitted to internshipaward@cubajournal.co. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 25, 2016.

English and journalism majors are encouraged to apply. For more information, contact Jennifer Hawk, director of the UI Hemingway Festival, at (208) 885-6156 or jhawk@uidaho.edu.

This year’s Hemingway Festival, which is held by the UI English Department and College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, is March 2-5, 2016. The signature event — A Moveable Feast — will feature a Cuban-inspired menu created by University Inn executive chef Marshall Baltzell.
