Both the men's and women's UMKC tennis teams were selected for the Oklahoma State Regional in the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships on May 12-13 or May 13-14. Each Roos team will play the host Cowboys. Exact dates and times for the matches will be released as soon as they are announced.
On the men's side, Drake and Illinois are also part of the regional field while Arkansas and Wichita State round out the women's grouping in Stillwater. Each UMKC team qualified for the NCAA Tournament after winning their respective Western Athletic Conference championships this past weekend.
“I'm excited about having both teams together because this program has always been about family and being together,” head coach Kendell Hale said. “To have each team supporting each other is going to be huge for us.”
The announcement was made on the NCAA Division I Tennis Championship Selection Shows in front of packed crowd during a watch party at the Student Union at UMKC.
“I couldn't be more happy about the turnout,” Hale said. “It's just a great testimony of where UMKC sports are headed and getting some excitement on-campus. These teams deserve every hand clap they got today.”
