[KEC]Trustees approve creation of School of Social Work and Human Services/트로이대학교[Troy University]
The growth and recognition of Troy University’s social work program has sparked the creation of a new school within the University’s College of Health and Human Services.
The Troy University Board of Trustees approved a resolution on July 24, creating the School of Social Work and Human Services, replacing the previous Department of Human Services and Social Work.
TROY’s social work program began more than 50 years ago as a unit of the Department of Psychology, while the Human Services program began as the result of federal grants. Dr. Denise Green, dean of the College of Health and Human Services and chair of the program, said the move to the higher status of “School” was more fitting given the growing stature of the social work program.
“This department has evolved over the last 50 years from a very small and important aspect of health care to a significant footprint in Alabama and the world,” Dr. Green said. “Now with the Masters of Social Work and new laws improving the professionalism of social work and human services, it is important to provide the academic title of ‘School’ to reflect these changes.”
TROY added the Masters of Social Work, a terminal degree in the field, in August 2014, and the social work program as a whole has been ranked as the best in Alabama and among the top 50 in the United States.
“The Troy University School of Social Work and Human Services will attract students from across state lines and across the ocean,” Dr. Green said. “This important status illuminates the extraordinary work of the faculty, staff and students that built this school and made it the number one program in Alabama and top 50 in the United States.”
