Two UT professors will debut their film Pat: A Legacy of Love at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 7, at the Bijou Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Sarah Hillyer, director of UT’s Center for Sport, Peace, and Society, and Ashleigh Huffman, associate director of the center, have spent the last three years producing the film dedicated to the late Pat Summitt, which features her role in rebuilding women’s basketball in Iraq.

The film is being presented by Coaching Change and espnW, and stars former players, administrators, and journalists, including Michelle Brooke‐Marciniak, Holly Warlick, Joan Cronan, and Sally Jenkins.

The event includes an orange carpet entrance, a VIP experience, and interactive exhibits. General admission tickets are $15 and are available through Ticketmaster; student tickets are $10. Attendees interested in a VIP experience can purchase tickets for $40, which includes a behind-the-scenes experience and conversations with the producers and cast.

“The film documents an unlikely friendship between a forgotten generation of Iraqi girls and the greatest basketball coach of all time,” said Hillyer. “And it all started with Pat’s willingness to send basketballs to girls in Iraq.”

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Pat Summitt Foundation as well as girls and women around the world fighting for their right to play sports.

Local sponsors for the event include WBIR; B97.5; Bandit Lites; the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame; the Center for Sport, Peace, and Society; and UT’s College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. WBIR’s Robin Wilhoit will serve as emcee for the evening.
