College of Nursing excited for return of program
What once was heralded as the flagship program of East Tennessee State University’s College of Nursing is now returning to the university, and leaders at the nursing school couldn’t be more excited.
For the past several years, the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program has been offered by ETSU through the TN eCampus program with the Tennessee Board of Regents. Through the TN eCampus program, faculty from all six of the then-TBR-affiliated universities taught students in a fully online format.
With the university’s transition from governance by the TBR to an institutional governing board, ETSU will return to independently offering the fully online MSN program.
“The opportunity to bring back this program, which was historically considered our flagship program, and to have more control over the curriculum, is just very exciting,” said Dr. Myra Clark, director of graduate programs for the ETSU College of Nursing. “The faculty is looking forward to the completion of the transition.”
In addition to offering concentrations/specializations in nursing education, nursing administration and family nurse practitioner, ETSU will add a fourth concentration in psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
“We are adding that concentration because there is a critical need for that in this part of the state,” Clark noted. “We’ll have coordinators for each concentration who are here to help students and there will be a dedicated advisor for them as well.”
