[트루먼주립대학교]This Week In Truman Athletics (Jan. 9 - 15)

Men's Basketball (12-3, 4-1 GLVC)

To say that this week is a huge one for the Great Lakes Valley Conference might be an understatement. For the first time since Feb. 1 and 6 of 2014 (No. 5 Drury and No. 15 Southern Indiana), the Truman men's basketball team will take on a ranked opponent in back-to-back weeks when it faces No. 17 Southern Indiana on Thursday and No. 13 Bellarmine on Friday. The Screaming Eagles lead the all-time series with the Bulldogs 3-1 while the Knights and Bulldogs have split their four matchups. Truman is right behind Quincy for first in the West and the Hawks will play the same two teams on Thursday and Saturday. In the East, Southern Indiana is currently first with Bellarmine two spots behind in third. After those two games, Truman will play an exhibition at No. 9/10 Creighton on Saturday with tip set for 12 p.m.

Before we jump into those massive showdowns with a preview on Wednesday, the Purple and White were able to take care of business this past week with a sweep in the Land of Lincoln. Thursday, Truman won at Illinois Springfield, 83-72, as four Bulldogs scored at least 10 points led by Dwight Sistrunk, Jr.'s 18. Saturday, Truman rolled past McKendree, 95-79, thanks in part to 26 points from Jake Velky and Sistrunk Jr.'s third-career double-double (first at Truman) with 11 points and 11 assists. This season, when the good guys score 90 or more points, they are 6-1 with the lone loss coming at Quincy on Dec. 10, 91-90.

Women's Basketball (8-6, 3-2 GLVC)

Riding a three-game winning streak, the Truman Women's Basketball will host the top two teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division in Pershing Arena. The Bulldogs will welcome Southern Indiana (12-2, 4-0 GLVC) on Thursday night and #4 Bellarmine (12-1, 4-0 GLVC) on Saturday afternoon. It is only the second trip these two GLVC founding members have made to Kirksville since Truman joined the league in 2013.

Truman rode the strong post play of senior Cassidy Clark to a pair of conference road victories last week. Clark averaged 22 points in victories over Illinois Springfield and McKendree while blocking six shots and recording eight steals. The six blocks vaulted her into Truman's Top 10 in career blocked shots with 41.

Wrestling (4-7)

The squad will have a dual match on Thursday night in Atchison, Kansas against Benedictine College.

The Bulldogs are 4-7 in duals this season and defeated the Ravens last year 27-19 in Kirksville. Benedictine was 1-0 in duals with a 23-22 victory over Baker back in December and competed on Saturday at the Bacone (Okla.) Duals.

Truman competed at the Central College Open on Saturday and nine of the 14 wrestlers won at least two matches. Freshman Ashton Mutuwa was the only Bulldog to earn a podium spot with a fourth place finish in the 285-pound weight class.

Swimming (Men: 4-4, Women: 6-2)

For their first events of 2017, the Truman men's and women's swimming teams will compete at Missouri State on Saturday with action against the Bears set to begin at 2 p.m. in Springfield. It will also be the first events of the new year for Missouri State who was last in action on Dec. 3 when its men and women swept Southern Illinois on the road.

In the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America/TYR Division II Top 25 Swimming & Diving Poll released on Dec. 21, the Bulldog women were ranked No. 12 while the men were unranked. Including Saturday, both teams will have three events to tune up their times for the GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 8-11 in Crawfordsville, Ind.
