Brandy Randall, associate dean of the College of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies, gave a presentation about NDSU’s unique doctoral three-minute dissertation video requirement at the Council of Graduate Schools annual meeting Dec. 7-10 in Washington D.C.
Other presenters in the “Future of the Dissertation” panel discussion were representatives from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Queens University in Canada.
As a condition of graduation, NDSU doctoral students must submit a three-minute video summarizing their dissertation research in a conversational style for a general audience.
“The goal of the requirement is to ensure doctoral graduates are skilled in the art of communication, an essential skill in any career endeavor they might pursue,” Randall said.
