An exhibit featuring works from the late Professor Emeritus Patricia J. Walker’s studio opens Oct. 10 at Indigo Sky Community Gallery in Savannah, Georgia. Proceeds from the sale of the works of art on display will help endow the Pat Walker Scholarship in Painting, which will provide needed financial support for students in the University’s Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt).

Walker (1949-2015) was a professor of painting and drawing in the BFSDoArt for 27 years, and was awarded professor emeritus status in 2014. Many of her students went on to become distinguished artists and art faculty. Throughout her career, she exhibited her work both nationally and internationally, received many awards, grants and scholarships, and her work was included in numerous art publications.

“This exhibit is a chance for those who knew and admired Pat to acquire an original piece of her work and to support the discipline in which Pat was deeply invested,” said Elsie Hill, assistant professor of Painting, Drawing and Foundations in the BFSDoArt.

Representing 35 years of Walker’s artistic lifetime, the exhibit features many works that have not been exhibited before. A wide range of mediums will be on display including large oil paintings, pastels, photography, giclees, and very affordable small watercolor studies and pencil sketches.

The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 8 and open to the public. The Indigo Sky Community Gallery, 915 Waters Avenue, Savannah, is open each Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and each Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m. The exhibit will be closed on Friday, Oct. 31. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., and a closing reception will take place on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 1 to 4 p.m., at which time sold artworks can be retrieved.
