Winona State University and the WSU Environmental Club will host “Protecting Nature in Cuba: Managing a Unique System of National Parks and Nature Preserves in Times of Economic Uncertainty” with David Ostergren at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 30 in the Science Laboratory Center, room 120.
With historic changes in the United States policy and 50 years of embargo recently lifted, this will bring many changes to Cuba. Ostergren will provide a look into Cuba’s national parks and wildlife refuge system. He will discuss the questions surrounding the current status of the Cuban parks system and how will this system fare as the economy makes a transition to a more open and global market.
David Ostergren is the director of the Master of Arts in environmental education program at Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana. He has focused his career on environmental education and tourism while working with national parks and nature reserves in multiple countries.
